Got some extra time at home up your sleeve and been thinking about renovating or building?
Seize the opportunity to kickstart the planning phase of your project – with flexibility to choose when you start the build.
Here’s how you can get the ball rolling without any risks.
Architecture and construction are some of the few industries that will keep going during lockdown.
1. Take advantage of your downtime
Now that most of us are stuck at home and likely spending most of our day online – there’s plenty of time to collect design ideas for your new home office, living room, kitchen, dining area, outdoor space, granny flat or whatever it might be that you want to renovate or build.
Try not to limit yourself when you’re gathering design ideas. You’ll be able to sort these out later with your designer, as you figure out which designs are feasible from those that aren’t (and this can all be done online and by video chat). We can work remotely.
2. Avoid the post-pandemic rush
Once the dust has settled, we’re predicting a rush for building and construction. This is why it’s so important to keep your plans moving forward now or else you’ll end up joining the end of the queue and waiting longer to start your build once you’re ready.
The waiting period for council approval will also become jammed so it’s best to submit your plans early if you want to beat the bottleneck at council later in the year when everyone wants their plans approved.
3. Most architects and building designers are working from home
Despite any lockdown, architects and building designers are still working and providing services to their clients because they work from home using digital cloud based tools and software anyway.
What you can do right now is find a designer who can work closely with you and can communicate with you regularly and probably remotely.
4. Pounce on low interest rates
The Reserve Bank of Australia has cut official interest rates to a record low due to the significant effect of the Coronavirus to help stimulate the economy (and help get more people building).
Borrowing money to do your project has never been cheaper.
Instead of delaying your plans to build a new home or renovate later on, now’s prime time to take advantage of low borrowing costs by kick starting the design and planning part of the project.
5. Designers and builders are offering unmissable deals
During this time, many designers are offering massive discounts to their clients. Your designer can also help you negotiate the best rates with consultants and builders to help bring down the costs of your new build or renovation project.
Many builders and tradies that we’ve worked with have expressed they’d happily be flexible with pricing right now – saving you precious funds on construction.
It’s business as usual (from a safe distance) at Superdraft
Superdraft is Australia’s leading architectural design and drafting service provider with digital innovation always being at the core of what we do. We have been operating our digital platform since 2011 and we’re well prepared for an event like this, which is why our business will operate normally with no disruptions.
If you choose to work with us, an expert designer will be in contact with you via phone, email or video calling (like Google Hangouts). We’ll give you an option to conduct preliminary design consultations online, so you don’t need to get out of the house.
If you’re not self-isolating and feeling well, if you prefer, our designers can meet with you for a social-distanced design consultation. We’re still providing the services we normally would, just with additional government-recommended precautions to ensure your safety and that of our team.
Superdraft is here to help you plan your next project. Our architects and building designers are ready to help you through every step of the journey.
Also enjoy the security of knowing you can put your project on hold at any point in time – we’re completely flexible.
