The property owners engaged Superdraft to design a luxurious Hawaiian resort-inspired waterfront home in the stunning Queensland suburb of Clear Island Waters on the Gold Coast.
Couple John and Siobhan Reid yearned for a home that would provide unique resort-style living and a feel-good vacation vibe all year round. They wanted to feel as though they were on holiday each time they came home. They decided that building a modern Hawaiian-inspired waterfront house in Queensland’s Clear Island Waters was the best way to achieve that ultimate resort experience without being too far away from the city. Cue Superdraft who helped the couple design a sophisticated home-slash-mini paradise.
“Our brief was to pretty much build a resort-style property which makes it feel like we’re on holiday every time we come home.” – Jon Reid
The Reid’s chose Superdraft as they were able to easily coordinate the planning, design and build of their project from one place, from start to finish. Being owner builders, it was crucial that they received a flawless, well thought out design to help streamline the build process and make the experience as simple as possible for the owners. This enabled them to invest more into creating their stunning dream home, along with the rewarding experience of being able to build their home for their family.
The couple presented Superdraft with some initial concepts on the home’s overall design. Their Superdraft designer further developed upon those creative ideas to create the stunning end product that can be seen today.

Infinity-edge pool, waterfront views, and beach-style interiors
Views of the water (seen from every angle of the house) were incorporated making it the main focal point and hero of the home. So much so, that water was introduced inside the home by way of a stunning water feature running from the exterior patio area that extends into the home.
The sightlines to the pool were kept open so that it could be viewed from all areas of the home. The astonishing solar-heated infinity-edge swimming pool wraps the whole ground floor. This gives all the livable areas a relaxing waterfront view of the pool and the lake. The living area, for example, opens to two poolside patios and a roofed lakefront verandah.
The family commented on how lovely it is waking up on the water, having that view in the morning and gorgeous sunsets in the evening.
“It actually feels like we’re on a cruise ship because the home has a dropped edge, and you’re surrounded by water everywhere.” – Siobhan Reid
Additionally, Superdraft designed this waterfront home with coastal-style interiors that fit with the panoramic views of the water and the Gold Coast skyline. The lounge and dining areas feature tropical-inspired furniture and decorations such as palm leaf wallpapers and wicker furniture pieces.
A spacious, family-friendly property
The 450sqm home has two stories. The bottom level has two wings: the main part of the home and the guest wing to allow for a totally self-sufficient living area whenever friends or other family members come to stay.
All the five large-sized bedrooms are located upstairs. The master suite has a study nook, walk-in wardrobe, and balcony cantilevered over the pool below. Meanwhile, the fifth bedroom is separated from the house if family or children may use it in the future. This area has a small kitchenette of its own.
The property layout is designed to create a “social” home. All of the entertainment rooms open up to each other. The property has a family room that includes a sitting area and a space for the TV. Across it is a gaming room with pinball machines and a billiard table. This gaming room leads you to a dedicated home cinema void of natural light so you can truly immerse in a true cinematic experience.
The resort-inspired home also features a wide, spacious kitchen that has a butler’s pantry. This was necessary to ensure the kitchen could be kept looking clutter-free and not compete with the views of the water.
The Reid family said the whole property topped their expectations. The home offers a compelling taste of extravagance with its fab swimming pool, resort-style design, waterfront views, and family-friendly layout.
The Gold Coast Bulletin and Real Estate recognised the property as one of the most stunning homes sold in 2015-2016. The tropical Hawaiian-inspired home landed on the 38th spot of the publication’s yearly listing of the best properties in the area.
